What to expect in 2023

Well since I wasn't able to fulfill all the things I promised last year I want to be more reasonable this year.  Coming soon: Winter themed collectathon game. I actually wanted to get this out before Christmas but... well that obviously didn't happen. Anyway this game is pretty close to completion so I can release it this year no problem. Coming less soon: Bronty Run . This was a game I actually announced a while ago. While I was working on it though, I came up with more ideas for it and have decided to make a fully fledged paid game. However I promise to also have a free demo version available at the same time. Hopefully I can finish it this year. Roll Game Updates . Hopefully I can get an update or two out this year. Fingers crossed. Let's see if I keep my resolution this year.

Looking Back at 2022

Ok. So I wasn't able to get done everything I wanted to do this year. I sadly was unable to keep my New Years Resolution. But than again most people don't either.  Seriously though, I am very disappointed in myself. I really wanted to get all these projects done and I failed. Before I go over what I plan to do next year I want to go over what I planned on delivering this year.  Lil' Knight RPG Demo: This was the only one of the projects I actually was able to deliver. It may not be a complete game but it still took a lot of time to complete since it was my first time doing game development in Wick Editor and it has given me ideas for the future. Roll Game Updates: I did start working on updating this game but other projects, work, and other life stuff got in the way. I WILL finish this game at some point but I don't know when.  New animation starring Adam and Krissy: While I really love these characters I created and want to continue making projects with these character...

Bronty Run: New Game In Development

Image
Recently, I started working on a new game called Bronty Run , a runner game starting Bronty the Brontosaurus (I know, such a creative name). The player must grab collectibles and dodge enemies quickly. The game is still in an early phase of development but I wanted to show what I've been working on recently. I am building this game using Wick Editor and Javascript.      In its current state everything, except Bronty, is represented by simple shapes as this is just an early build. I'm probably going to need a few more months before I think it's ready for release as I want to make this a complete game and not just a demo.       Hopefully I'll have more news soon!

Lil' Knight Demo release

Image
Lil' Knight A few months ago I started working on an idea I had for an RPG. And now it is finally done!  Well... sort of.  This is just a demo/proof of concept. But I think it turned out well. It's definitely not the most advanced RPG but I think its still pretty fun. I'm honestly not sure if I want to turn this into a full game or not. Why not play it yourself and tell me what you think! I built this demo using Wick Editor, a fun and free online tool for creating animations and games. If you're interested in making either of those, I'd recommend trying it out. And if you would like to play the Lil' Knight demo, click here .

Current Projects (coming soon): Lil' Knight (RPG prototype) Roll Game Update (Just Roll With It 2.5) Current Projects (coming less soon): Roll Game Update (Just Roll With It 3.0) Planned Projects: New animation starring Adam and Krissy More original animated shorts More game projects

Roll Game Update 2.0

Image
I've finally finished the first update to my Roll Game Prototype. I also have decided to give it a proper title, Just Roll With It . This new update has added a second stage among a few other changes.  Here is what's new: The game now has a title screen upon starting the game. The game now features a "How to Play Page" that players can access on the title screen. The game's camera is now a bit lower, making the player a bit more centered than before. Stage 1 fixed bug where player could be crushed by certain moving platforms but not take damage fixed some hard to reach platforms Stage 2 Springs: Players can use these to leap over ledges, gaps, and enemies. New enemy type: Enemy moves left to right on the ground. The stage resets if the player touches one. You can play Just Roll With It at roll-game.kylemcnaught.com/

DCIM Project Update

My DCIM Capstone Project is progressing well. I have learned a lot about the different ways tutorials can implemented into a game as well as examples that I can use for my project. While, I want my project to focus on teaching a player by having them play the game for themselves, I have learned about other forms of non text tutorials such as interactive in-game tutorials and background in-game tutorials. Both of these involve the player playing the game but still outline the necessary information rather than letting the play just play and figure it out themselves. I believe that these are types of tutorials worth pointing out in my project, even though they are not the focus.     I have also learned what game designers typically try to avoid when crafting a tutorial. Tutorials that force the players to read walls of text are obviously not what players want and will likely get skipped by them, but there are others factors to avoid as well. Trying to t...

Roll-Game Prototype Available Now

Image
Several months ago I was tasked with creating a videogame prototype, which I am tentatively referring to simply as: "Roll-Game."  The first level of this prototype is available here: roll-game.kylemcnaught.com Alternatively, it is also on the sidebar of this website under the Prototypes section. If your interested, why not check it out? It's free! The second level is currently in production. I'll be posting here in the future about updates to Roll-Game and other projects.

Digital Opportunities and Challenges

Communication through digital devices is very different when compared to communication in the past. Digital Communication provides the users of the technology with opportunities that they wouldn't have without it. The biggest advantage of digital communication is being able to communicate with others in other parts of the world. However, there are also challenges that come from digital communication. One of the key examples of these is it can remove the disconnect between a person's home life and work life.     Being able to communicate with people around the world is incredibly useful for a number of reasons. This allows people to have meetings even when people are unable to meet. Also, according to Forbes, this specifically allows companies to hire talent across the globe. Another  benefit to living in the digital age is being able to send a message to another person and getting an immediate response, according to RealBusiness. Individuals having a d...

Who I am

Hi! My name is Kyle McNaught (I sometimes go by Arcade Kyle) and welcome to my very own website. Why not stick around and get to know me? What's different about me? Well, I feel that I have a creative way of looking at things and love the creative process when working on projects. I often surprise people when I come up with ideas or express my opinions.  What about myself am I most proud of? I'm most proud of my personal projects, work that I've done on my own. I've created video game prototypes and hope to release a full game soon. What would I like people to know me for? I would like people to know me as an entertainer. Someone who creates video games, animations, and other works that can be enjoyed by a large audience of people.
